How Much Does WooCommerce Cost? Yearly Totals at Four Store Sizes

How much does WooCommerce cost? Yearly totals from side project to $10M store, with every line item priced at published September 2026 rates.

How much does WooCommerce cost? The software is $0; the store around it runs from about $1,250 a year as a side project to roughly $10,300 at $100K in revenue, near $98,000 at $1M, and $450,000 or more at $10M. Payment processing, not hosting, is the line that scales — and it is the one most cost guides leave out.

The line items, before we total anything

WooCommerce itself is free: a GPL plugin with more than seven million active installations and no license fee (source), and WooCommerce’s pricing page states a 0% revenue share (source). Everything below is what surrounds it, at September 2026 published prices.

Line item Typical range (Sept 2026) What drives it Notes
Hosting $25–$350/month for most stores Traffic, PHP workers, orders per hour WooCommerce’s published figure; SiteGround lists $17.99–$44.99/month on renewal, Kinsta $35–$375/month for single sites, Pressable $250–$6,750/year, WP Engine from $28/month

Four stores, four yearly totals

Monthly line items hide the shape of the bill. Yearly totals do not. Each figure below is arithmetic on published rates, not a quote.

Stage Revenue and orders Biggest line Yearly total
Side project $25,000 / 500 orders Card fees, $875 ~$1,250 (5.0% of revenue)
Real business $100,000 / 1,400 orders Developer time, $4,000 ~$10,300 (10.3%)
Scaling brand $1,000,000 / 12,000 orders Card fees, $33,500 ~$98,000 (9.8%)
High volume $10,000,000 / 110,000 orders Card fees, up to $323,000 $450,000–$700,000 (4.5–7.0%)

Side project: about $1,250 a year

Shared WooCommerce hosting at renewal price, $360. Domain, $12. Free certificate and free theme, $0. No paid extensions. Klaviyo’s free tier at 250 profiles, $0. Card fees on $25,000 across 500 orders: $725 plus $150 in fixed fees, or $875. Note what dominates: the processor takes 3.5% of revenue while the software takes nothing. Year one is cheaper — SiteGround’s promotional WooCommerce pricing starts at $2.99/month (source) — but plan for the renewal.

$100,000 a year: about $10,300

Managed hosting at $50/month, $600. Domain, $12. Astra Pro renewal, $149. Three extensions (Product Add-Ons, Table Rate Shipping, AutomateWoo), $357. WP Rocket, $60. Card fees: $2,900 plus $420 fixed, plus about three disputes at $15, or $3,365. Klaviyo at 10,000 profiles, roughly $1,800. Forty hours of developer time at $100, $4,000. This is the stage where the ratio flips: software and hosting are $1,178 of a $10,343 bill, and people plus processors are the rest.

$1,000,000 a year: about $98,000

Hosting moves up to roughly $6,000 — Kinsta’s single-site 250GB plan is $290/month and Pressable’s 1M-visit tier is $3,500/year, and stores at this volume typically sit above both. Add Cloudflare Business at $2,400/year, extension licenses around $1,200, and monitoring near $3,600. Card fees on $1M across 12,000 orders: $29,000 plus $3,600 fixed plus roughly $900 in disputes, or $33,500. Klaviyo at 50,000 profiles, $8,640. An agency retainer at $1,500/month, $18,000, plus $25,000 of project work. Total: $98,340, of which the platform license remains $0.

$10,000,000 a year: $450,000 to $700,000

Here published prices stop answering the question. Every major managed host moves to custom pricing at this traffic — WP Engine’s Core and Enterprise tiers are quoted, not listed (source), and Kinsta, Nexcess, and Cloudways all publish a custom tier above their top plan. Card fees at published rates would be $290,000 plus $33,000 in fixed fees, though Stripe negotiates custom rates at this volume and does not publish them, so treat $323,000 as a ceiling. Engineering is the other large number: 2,000 hours at the published $80–$120/hour is $160,000–$240,000, whether that is in-house salary, an agency retainer, or both. Tooling, licenses, and monitoring add $30,000–$70,000. The yearly total lands between $450,000 and $700,000, and a 0.2% swing in your processing rate is worth more than your entire hosting bill.

The costs people miss

Where Urumi fits in this math

Only at the top of that table, and only for some stores there. Urumi is the platform layer for WooCommerce stores doing roughly $1M–$50M GMV — the range where a checkout regression costs more in a morning than hosting costs in a year. It is custom-priced, and it is not the cheap option; below $1M, a standard managed plan is the correct answer and we will say so.

What changes above that line is what you are buying. grüum grew revenue 13.3% year over year on Urumi, with cached loads going from 4.0 s to 0.3 s. That is a revenue number, not a hosting number, and it is the only reason a store at this size should pay more than list price for infrastructure. Already have a team or an agency? They ship faster with the grunt work covered. The WooCommerce platform page has the details.

Frequently asked questions

How much does WooCommerce cost per month?

The plugin is $0 per month. A small store typically spends $30–$60 a month on hosting, domain, and tools, plus about 3% of revenue in card fees. A store doing $1M a year runs closer to $8,000 a month all-in, most of it payment processing and engineering rather than software.

Is WooCommerce cheaper than Shopify?

At small scale, usually yes, because there is no platform fee. At large scale it depends on what you count: Shopify Plus starts at $2,300/month on a three-year term or $2,500/month on a one-year term, while WooCommerce trades that fee for hosting and engineering you buy yourself. The comparison is a build-versus-buy decision, not a price-tag comparison.

How much does it cost to build a WooCommerce website?

Published 2026 ranges put a basic store at $1,500–$8,000, a mid-level store with real integrations at $5,000–$25,000, and a complex or high-volume build at $25,000–$100,000 or more. Developer rates behind those figures run $80–$120/hour on Codeable and $50–$200+/hour across the wider market.

What is the biggest cost of running a WooCommerce store?

Payment processing, at almost every stage. At 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction it is the only line that scales linearly with revenue, and by $1M a year it is roughly a third of total spend. Hosting, the thing most cost guides lead with, is usually under 10% of the bill.

If your store is heading past the $1M line, the next two things to read are how to scale WooCommerce for high traffic and how grüum grew revenue 13.3% year over year on Urumi, which shows what the spend actually buys at that size.
