Kinsta vs WP Engine for WooCommerce: both run on Google Cloud, but they package stores differently. Kinsta sells fixed per-plan PHP threads plus an included APM from $35/month. WP Engine sells hosting tiers plus an eCommerce Performance Pack at sales-quoted prices, with a 99.95% standard SLA. Pick by what must be bundled; above $1M GMV, both leave gaps.

Plans and entry price

Kinsta prices single-site plans by monthly visits: Single 35k at $35/month ($30/month billed annually), Single 65k at $50/month, Single 125k at $90/month, Single 315k at $170/month, Single 500k at $290/month, and Single 750k at $375/month, per the Kinsta plans page. Its WooCommerce hosting page steers stores toward the $50/month single-site tier, the $115/month WP 5 plan, or Agency plans from $340/month. Common store add-ons are priced separately: Redis at $100/month per site, an Nginx reverse proxy at $50/month per site, premium staging at $20/month per environment, and hourly backups at $100/month per site, per Kinsta’s add-on docs.

WP Engine’s plans page now groups hosting into Essential (1–30 sites, 25,000–400,000 visits/month, 10–50 GB storage, 75 GB bandwidth), Core (30–50 sites, 400,000–800,000 visits/month, 550 GB bandwidth), and Enterprise (custom). The page shows publicly listed pricing in your local currency and marks Site Monitoring, Smart Plugin Manager, and Global Edge Security as optional add-ons on Essential. WP Engine’s eCommerce pricing page still lists Essential eCommerce at $150/month (up to 100K visits, 15 GB, one store) and Core eCommerce at $500/month (up to 600K visits, 100 GB, unmetered bandwidth, 99.99% SLA), with Enterprise eCommerce on a custom quote. However, WP Engine’s support documentation states that, as of October 15, 2025, eCommerce plans can no longer be purchased; the same features are now sold as the site-level eCommerce Performance Pack, which has no published price. Existing eCommerce-plan customers stay on their plans.

The practical difference: Kinsta’s WooCommerce cost is arithmetic you can do on the pricing page. WP Engine’s WooCommerce cost is a hosting tier plus a quoted pack, so ask sales for the all-in number before comparing.

Compute model: PHP threads vs environments

Kinsta runs each site in an isolated container and publishes the PHP-thread count per plan: 2 on Single 35k, 4 on Single 65k and WP 5, 6 on Single 125k and 315k, 8 on Single 500k and 750k, and 8 or more on Enterprise, per Kinsta’s documentation. Each thread serves one uncached request at a time, which is the constraint that matters for cart and checkout traffic. Kinsta has moved regions such as Mumbai and Las Vegas onto Google’s C3D virtual machines, per its changelog.

WP Engine provisions shared plans on Google Cloud by default, in the region closest to your signup location; AWS and Azure are available only on Premium plans, per its data center documentation. WP Engine does not publish a PHP worker count per plan on its pricing pages; capacity is expressed in visits and bandwidth, and dedicated environments are a Premium and Enterprise conversation. For a store that needs to know how many simultaneous checkouts it can process, Kinsta’s model is easier to reason about, and WP Engine’s requires a sales-side sizing exercise.

WooCommerce caching, staging, and monitoring

Kinsta’s page cache excludes cart, my-account, and checkout, and its Edge Caching serves cached pages from 300+ locations, per the WooCommerce page. Kinsta APM is included on every plan with PHP and MySQL transaction data. Staging is included, with premium staging (more CPU, same thread count as production) at $20/month. Sites are checked every 3 minutes.

WP Engine’s WooCommerce-specific layer is EverCache for WooCommerce with Live Cart, which the eCommerce solution page describes as cart-aware caching that prevents checkout failures during traffic spikes, plus Dynamic Plugin Loading (page weight down by up to 30%), a Slow Query Monitor, and Smart Search AI. Scaling, SLA, migration, and support

Neither platform auto-scales a store in the base tiers. On Kinsta you move up a plan, buy add-ons, or move to a dedicated server from $300/month. On WP Engine you move from Essential to Core to Enterprise, and Premium clusters on AWS or Azure are sized with sales. For a store planning a product drop, the question to ask each vendor is the same: how many simultaneous uncached checkout requests will this plan process before queuing, and what happens to the rest?

Kinsta’s SLA is 99.9% by default (credits start once monthly downtime passes 43 minutes) and 99.99% only when written into the order form (credits after 4 minutes); credits must be claimed in writing within 30 days. WP Engine’s SLA commits to 99.95% on standard services, with 5% of monthly fees credited per full hour of excess downtime, and 99.99% for services marked Enhanced SLA, with 3% credited per half hour. Independent monitoring by Hostingstep across 2025 recorded WP Engine at 99.9952% uptime (25 minutes, one outage) with a 365 ms average TTFB, and Kinsta at 99.9714% (149 minutes, five outages) with 459 ms.
